Congressman Charles Boustany (R-La), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight of the House Ways and Means Committee, announced a hearing for May 8th on the IRS’s report on the College and Universities Compliance Project. As noted in Monday’s Exempt Organization Advisory, the IRS report was released on April 25th and included information about the results of its compliance questionnaires and examinations of a selection of colleges and universities.
In the hearing announcement, Boustany stated, “The IRS’s colleges and universities compliance project suggests widespread noncompliance. The Subcommittee has an obligation to explore the root of these alarming findings on the audit of our nation’s higher education providers.” He also noted that the hearing would be an opportunity to “examine areas for improvement in oversight, with an eye toward comprehensive tax reform.”
Written comments may be submitted for the hearing record until May 22, 2013.
