Late last week, Politico reported that DOI could issue a drilling permit for the U.S. Gulf of Mexico this week. According to the report, Bureau of Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) Director Michael Bromwich has said that well containment has been the key issue delaying the issuance of new drilling permits in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, but noted last Friday that “I am very confident that we are getting close to the point where we can issue deep-water permits.”
