The Commission has given the green light to the proposed acquisition of MAN SE by Volkswagen AG. The Commission’s investigation, which was completed during a routine phase I procedure, concluded that the merged entity would become the market leader for heavy trucks in Europe , the second largest supplier of buses in Europe and market leader in some sub-segments. Nevertheless, the Commission found no evidence to indicate that the proposed transaction would significantly distort competition in Europe. It reasoned that the merged entity would continue to face strong competition from other well established truck manufacturers such as Daimler, Volvo, Iveco, DAF and bus manufacturers Daimler, Volvo, Iveco, Solaris and VDL.
