The draft Regulation on energy market integrity and transparency (REMIT) has been approved by the Industry, Research and Energy Committee and will go to a full vote in the EP in September. REMIT would prohibit the use of inside information and market manipulation in the wholesale energy markets. REMIT would create the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) to play a key role in keeping records and monitoring all transactions, and national regulatory authorities would have access to all this information. National authorities would also have enforcement powers, though there is a call for sanctions policies to be consistent. ACER would have access also to emissions trading figures and there would be a central register of energy traders. (Source: EP Committee Approves REMIT)
