Last week the ICPHSO conference in Orlando, Florida hosted an historic event as product safety regulators from the United States (CPSC), Canada (Health Canada) and Mexico (PROFECO) signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding. The MoU formalised the three-way cooperation that has been taking place between the agencies, and paves the way for future cooperative initiatives. The co-operative approach allows the regulators to work together to share best practices on regulatory and technical issues and increase the potential to reach alignment on approaches to safety. The MoU highlights the increasing connectedness between product safety regulatory agencies around the world – a trend that is also becoming evident in other regions – reflecting the increased global footprint of many products.
