Over the next month, the Fair Work Ombudsman is planning face-to-face visits to 450 businesses throughout Western Australia (with Mandurah, Midland and Rockingham specifically identified as a centre for site visits), as well as throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory.  The purpose of these visits is to educate employers about their record-keeping obligations, and help employers to improve their record-keeping practices and maintain compliance.

It is important to get record-keeping right.  Non-compliance can result in penalties of up to $2,550 per contravention for a company and $510 per contravention for an individual.  Additionally, if the non-compliance is serious, wilful or repetitive, Fair Work Inspectors may recommend the matter be taken to court.
