• The Equality and Human Rights Commission has now published the final version of the Statutory Code of Practice on Employment which tribunals are required to take into account when applying the Equality Act 2010. It will remain a draft until it has completed the negative resolution procedure in Parliament.
  • The government has announced that it will not be amending the Agency Workers Regulations 2010 before they come into force in October 2011. Draft guidance is expected to be published in early 2011. Employers will need to start planning for the changes, including reviewing their use of agency workers and the terms of their agreements with agencies.
  • EU proposals to amend maternity rights are progressing, with the EU Parliament approving proposals to increase maternity leave to 20 weeks on full pay (amongst other changes – see the press release here for further details). However, any changes require the approval of the Council of Ministers, which is likely to amend the proposals.
  • The government is reported to be considering increasing the qualifying period for most unfair dismissal claims from one to two years
