On 18 June 2014, the Council of the EU published a press release announcing that its Permanent Representatives Committee (COREPER) has, on the Council's behalf, agreed a general approach on the proposed Fourth Money Laundering Directive (MLD4) and the proposed revised Wire Transfer Regulation (WTR).

The general approach is set out in documents 10970/14 and 10971/14, which the Council published on 15 June 2014.

COREPER called on the future Italian Presidency of the Council to start trialogue negotiations with the European Parliament once the Parliament has resumed work following the recent elections, with a view to adopting the new rules at early second reading.

The Parliament adopted its position at first reading on 11 March 2014.
