The UKBA has issued new guidance for employers on preventing illegal working. The new document updates guidance that was published in February 2008. It includes further clarification of document checks that employers need to make and provides up-to-date sample images of the immigration stamps, endorsements and documents which can be accepted as evidence of a migrant's right to work in the UK. The new guidance includes:

  • confirmation that employers can accept evidence of status in expired passports and travel documents (with the exception of the Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode);
  • updated images of sample documents, stamps and endorsements;
  • two new appendices on employing students, asylum seekers and refugees; and
  • updated UKBA contact details for further support and
