On 10 December 2012 the President of Poland signed an act amending the Telecommunications Law to implement the EU Directives issued in 2009. The majority of the amendments entered into force on 21 January 2013. The changes improve the position of users of telecommunications services by, among other things, setting out a requirement to make contracts and tariffs more understandable and laying down a maximum term for contracts. Most of the changes concern conditions of conducting telecommunications activity in Poland, e.g. enabling the lease of frequencies and reducing data retention time from 24 to 12 months.
