What to Watch:
New Jersey Mandates Severance for Certain Laid-Off Workers
Effective in July 2020, New Jersey will become the first state to mandate severance pay when employees are terminated in circumstances that trigger New Jersey’s WARN Act. Inspired by recent public mass layoffs in the state, New Jersey also expanded the requirements of its mini-WARN Act, which now requires 90 days’ notice of termination and expands the scope of layoffs and closures that will require WARN notice.
