The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has decided to open its disciplinary tribunal hearings to the public. This is a move in line with other professional bodies who already hold their hearings in public and has been encouraged by the Professional Oversight Board (POB).
The move will enable the ICAEW to better demonstrate that its processes are objective and in the public interest. Exceptional cases may still be overseen by closed tribunals. The proposed effective date is 1 January 2008.
