Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman is asking the Senate to pass “any” legislation that could be tied to climate change. While Waxman says he’d take “any” legislation, he would prefer the Senate handle energy and climate change in a comprehensive fashion complementary to the approach taken in the bill that passed the House. By passing any bill that relates to climate change—for example, Sen. Bingaman’s energy package—it would result in that bill and Rep. Waxman’s HR 2454 moving to conference committee. Waxman believes that, once in conference committee, the two chambers could come to an agreement on a final bill and have it signed by the President before the climate meetings in Copenhagen this December.
