On 26 April 2012, the Commission sent reasoned opinions to five Member States asking them to fully implement the Electricity and Gas Directives of the third energy reform package legislation. This package includes provisions for a proper functioning of the energy markets and had to be transposed by Member States by 3 March 2011. However, Finland, Sweden and the UK have not informed the Commission of necessary transposition measures for fully transposing the two Directives, and Austria and Estonia have not done so in relation to the Electricity Directive. The Member States now have two months to respond to the opinions. If they fail to do so, the Commission may refer them to the European Union’s Court of Justice. Read more.
