The claimant failed in his modest claim for personal injuries (valued at £1,500) allegedly sustained in a road traffic accident. The defendant provided evidence that the claimant was one of nine separate claimants who had conspired together to bring claims. Substantial evidence was supplied at trial (extending to 2,911 pages) which included significant print outs from Facebook to support that the claimants were linked.

Although judgment was found for the defendant a number of observations were made about the management of the case. Ultimately, however, the court accepted that the considerable resources applied by AXA in defending this claim were justified given the financial consequences of fraud to the motor insurance industry.
