Sponsors are reminded that in order to avoid unnecessary delays they should review all Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes carefully when submitting a restricted Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) request.  We have recently been contacted by a number of sponsors whose applications for restricted CoS have been refused based on the UKBA's belief that the incorrect SOC code was chosen.

As sponsors are aware, a Tier 2 CoS can only be assigned for NQF level 6 positions. However, when reviewing SOC codes all NQF levels should be reviewed to ascertain that the role that is being offered is at the correct level.
