With the Department of Energy (DOE) dropping support of FutureGen, doors were opened for other states to try and earn backing from the DOE. Kentucky is one of the states that is making an effort to gain a smaller scale project that the DOE has hinted towards funding. Kentucky Gov. Beshear put together a team of economists and energy staffers to develop proposals and examine the possibilities of bringing a FutureGen type project to Kentucky. Kentucky House Floor Leader Rocky Adkins said, "If FutureGen can't get back on track, then Kentucky needs to take advantage of it."
