The Government has been consulting on court fees. The rationale behind their thinking is that the court system has got to be made to pay for itself, while still providing access for justice.

This means that fees for some lower value claims will stay the same and in some cases there will be a 10% discount for certain claims issued on line.

However the proposals also raise the possibility that for claims issued in the Technology and Construction Court the issue fee will become 5% of the amount claimed, up to a cap muted as being between a minimum of £10,000 and possibly £15,000 or even £20,000.

This means that if there is to be a cap of £15,000, all claims over £300,000 would attract an issue fee of £15,000.  If there is to be a cap of £20,000, all claims over £400,000 would attract an issue fee of £20,000.
