BERR has announced a series of measures to help consumers in the credit crisis. Among the measures are:
- a ban on credit card providers increasing credit limits where the consumer has not asked for an increase; and
- a ban on unsolicited credit card cheques.
The Government intends to bring in laws as soon as possible to address this. BERR also suggested it would reassess the split of responsibilities between FSA and OFT on regulation of second charge mortgages following the Turner Review and the Government's White Paper (which is due around the time of the budget).
