The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has issued a final rule reinstating regulatory protections under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) for the gray wolf in most of the northern Rocky Mountains. 75 Fed. Reg. 65,574 (10/26/10). The rule implements findings made by a federal district court which set aside a 2009 rule that delisted the gray wolf and ordered the agency to reinstate previous ESA protections for the species. The rule applies to the northern half of Montana, the northern panhandle of Idaho, the eastern third of Washington and Oregon, and north-central Utah. The rule is effective October 26, 2010.
