The government announced early this year that the right to request time off for training would not be extended to all employees from 6 April 2011, as had originally been planned. Presently, employees of a business with 250 or more employees may request time off work to in order to study or train.

This right was due to be extended to all employees, regardless of the size of their employers. However, the government, following consultation, decided to avoid placing unnecessary burden on small businesses.
