The minimum wage panel of the Fair Work Commission has completed its annual wage review for 2013 – 2014.

As a result of the annual wage review, with effect from the first full pay period to commence on or after 1 July 2014:

  • the weekly rates of pay in modern awards will increase by 3%, rounded to the nearest 10 cents
  • the casual loading for award/agreement free employees will increase to 25%
  • the national minimum wage will increase to $640.90 per week, or $16.87 per hour.

Employers should carefully review the rates of pay and conditions they are affording employees to ensure they are meeting their minimum award obligations following the annual wage review.

Employers who are covered by an enterprise agreement should also review that agreement to ensure that the base rates of pay for an employee under the enterprise agreement are not less than those that would be payable to the employee under the relevant modern award.
