The report of the Statutory Sick Pay Review Working Group has now been published. The group was set up in July 2007 in response to the findings of last year’s ‘Welfare Reform Green Paper Empowering People to Work’ report, which examined measures to reduce the administrative complexity of the SSP scheme. The report concluded that “the government should concentrate on helping employers to manage attendance more effectively, supporting this with modernisation of medical certification arrangements and facilitating vocational rehabilitation”. The report also called for further clarity and consistency in the SSP scheme.
