As part of the increasing cooperation and strengthening ties between China and Cambodia, the China-ASEAN Law Cooperation Institution in Cambodia was opened on Thursday 15th of December in Phnom Penh. This independent institution aims to be a privileged mean of cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in the legal sector, particularly through arbitration thereby supporting China businesses in their ASEAN endeavors.

According to Ros Monin, director of the National Commercial Arbitration Center (NCAC), this center would also render Cambodia more attractive to Chinese businesses and investors. Indeed, the commercial arbitration section of the Institution has been approved by the Chinese government to handle, in cooperation with the NCAC of Cambodia, all issues they may encounter not only in Cambodia, but in all other ASEAN countries as well, thereby making Cambodia the “go-to” arbitration destination for Chinese companies in South East Asia.
