Kate Dewar, Richard Wilson and Ian Gray, Members of the Morton Fraser Housing Team – The Private Rented Sector, review their recent ‘Rented Housing - A public private romance?’ seminar.

They ask is private renting exclusively a market solution to the housing problem and should the social housing sector move further towards affordable housing and non-secure tenancies?

Alternatively should the Government be encouraging institutional investment to fund large scale private rented sector new build developments, an area which is being looked at south of the border through the Montague Review.

They discuss how in the current housing market some property owners have become ‘accidental landlords’ - where they can't sell their current property and choose to rent it out instead, and review the opportunities available in the affordable housing rental market and the regulations landlords need to be aware of.
