NIIP recently took part in the national dialogue held in Nur-Sultan (Astana) reviewing granting greater access to medicines for Kazakh citizens.  Members of the dialogue included SK PHARMACY, KAZAKH SCIENTIFIC CENTER FOR DERMARTOLOGY AND INFECTIOUS DISEASES, NIIP, CENTRAL ASIAN ASSOCIATION OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV and leading experts in the filed of IP.  The dialogue focused on the best ways to increase access to medicines for the treatment of infectious diseases including HIV and HCV.  Reviews were made on the barriers of IP with relation to obtaining generic drugs in Kazakhstan.  The forum also looked at the availability of the drugs in relation to IPR in Central Asia as a whole, the example of Malaysia in using flexible provisions of international agreements to lower drug prices as well as the study of procurement of HIV/HCV drugs.
