In October, France gained approval from the European Commission (Commission) to contribute €31 million to the OSIRIS research programme for the development of biotechnology products. A French firm, Soufflé in association with Maguin and a French research laboratory, is coordinating the programme. It is intended that the research findings will be available to other parties, including competitors of the undertakings concerned. The Commission announced it was satisfied the government aid would have a genuine incentive effect.
