The U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Atlanta PERM Center has begun to review older pending PERM cases which have been pending at the Center for audit review. It is estimated that the Atlanta PERM Center has approximately 18,000 PERM applications pending for audit review. It appears that the DOL is currently reviewing PERM applications that were selected for an audit review which were initially filed with the DOL in June 2007. However, it appears that since the DOL is allocating more of its resources to review these older pending PERM cases, the DOL is not as expeditiously reviewing newly filed cases. Because all PERM applications are now reviewed by the DOL’s Atlanta PERM Center since the DOL reorganized its operations on June 1, 2008, the backlog of pending PERM cases appears to be significantly increasing. However, the DOL has stated that it is hiring additional analysts for its National Processing Centers and after these new analysts are trained, it is assumed that processing times will begin to be reduced.
