On 25 April 2012, the Commission announced that it has decided to approve the extension of a French tax credit scheme for the creation of video games with cultural content. With an estimated budget of €45m a year, the Commission finds that this scheme is helping to steer video game production towards projects with cultural content, in line with EU State aid rules. To qualify for the tax credit, the video game must either be an adaptation of an existing work of European origin or satisfy a test of quality, originality of concept and contribution to the European cultural diversity and creativity.
