According to the latest accident figures from the HSE which include statistics for 12 months prior to the end of March 2013, there was a fall in major incidents in the UK over that period.  There were 19,707 major incidents reported by employers which represents a fall to 78.5 per 100,000  workers from 88.5 in the year 2011/12. Whilst fatal injuries fell from 171 to 148 last year, the  rate per workers only reduced marginally by 0.5 compared to a five year average of 0.6 and  therefore represented a levelling off rather than an overall trend. The statistics also show that  27m working days were lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury.
