This afternoon, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released the most recent report on the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). The data reflect a 45% increase in permanent loan modifications, with 170,000 permanent modification having been granted. 1.1 million trial offers have begun, compared to 1 million as of last month, with 72,000 beginning in February. There are now 1 million borrowers in active modifications, representing a cumulative savings of $2.7 billion in mortgage payments.
