Following recommendations from the Low Pay Commission, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has announced the National Minimum Wage rates that will apply from 1 October 2011:

  • The adult rate (for workers aged 21 and over) will increase by 15p from £5.93 to £6.08
  • per hour.
  • The rate for workers aged 18-20 will increase by 6p from £4.92 to £4.98 per hour.
  • The rate for workers aged 16-17 will increase by 4p from £3.64 to £3.68 per hour.
  • The rate for apprentices will increase by 10p from £2.50 to £2.60 per hour.

As announced in the Budget, the Government will also invite the Low Pay Commission in its next report to consider the best way to give businesses more clarity on future levels of the National Minimum Wage, including consideration of two-year recommendations.
