The government is proposing to extend the right to request flexible employment currently restricted to those with children under six. This could be extended to parents with children up to the age of 17. An inquiry has been set up, to be lead by Imelda Walsh, to carry out an independent review of the right to request flexible working. Currently 6.25 million parents have the right to request flexible working. This figure could be increased by 4.5 million if the government proposals go ahead.
