A Texan employer is being sued for discrimination after dismissing a female employee allegedly on the grounds of her grey hair.

Sandra Rawline, 52, who turned grey in her early 20s is claiming that her boss told her that she needed a more ‘upscale image’, that she should wear ‘younger, fancy suits’ and that she needed to dye her hair. He even offered to dye her hair for her.

When Rawline refused she was fired within a week and replaced by a woman 10 years younger. The employer is denying the allegations.

Such discrimination would fall foul of UK law under the Equality Act.
