On 10 May 2013, a Bill which proposes a payment scheme for eligible persons (those suffering from 'diffuse mesothelioma' (a rare form of cancer commonly caused by exposure to asbestos, and their eligible dependents) is under consideration in the House of Lords. It is currently intended that the scheme will pay out in circumstances where it is not possible to trace the sufferer's employer or employer's liability insurer. It is proposed that the scheme will be funded by a levy (based on market share in a recent 12 month period).
