Regulations which form part of the Equality Act 2006 came into force on 30 April 2007. The new legislation prohibits discrimination at work on the grounds of sexual orientation and religion or belief.
The Regulations prohibit businesses from:
· refusing to supply normal services to people because of their sexual orientation, religion or belief
· treating civil partners or same sex unmarried couples on an unequal basis as against those who are married or mixed gender couples living together and
· advertising in a way which discriminates against people because of their sexual orientation or religious belief.
