The CBP recently issued a reminder, that, per the existing regulations, nationals of certain countries are eligible for automatic visa revalidation when returning to the U.S. from contiguous territory (Canada or Mexico) after a trip lasting no longer than 30 days. Only F-1 and J-1 students are eligible for automatic visa revalidation when returning to the U.S. from both contiguous territory and adjacent islands other than Cuba. Importantly, automatic revalidation is not available to individuals that applied for new U.S. visas while in contiguous territory or an adjacent island, and have a visa application pending with or denied by a U.S. Consulate abroad. Additionally, nationals of certain countries (Iran, Syria, Sudan, and Cuba) are not eligible for the automatic revalidation procedure.
