China is speeding up its development in the energy sector following the promulgation of its Energy Development 12th Five Year Plan in January of this year, as reported in the March 2013 edition of the Trade & Manufacturing Alert. The National Development and Reform Commission, China's macroeconomic management agency with abroad control over the Chinese economy and decisive authority on major projects in all sectors, has authorized more energy sector projects than projects in other sectors. Among the thirty six new projects approved by the agency in the first four months of this year, sixteen of them are energy sector projects, including seven coal projects, three natural gas projects, two oil projects, two hydropower projects, and two wind power projects.
