On 24 January 2007, the Commission approved Italy’s plans to publicly finance the extension of the infrastructure at Tortoli-Arbatax Airport. The airport serves an isolated area at the eastern coast of Sardinia: the Commission found that the proposed investments are in line with the Community guidelines on financing of airports and start-up aid to airlines departing from regional airports (OJ C 312/1, 9.12.2005) as the funding aims to achieve a clearly defined objective of general interest, without causing undue market distortion.

Italy is allowed to invest over € 3 million for upgrading and extending the airport runway, the passenger terminal, the perimeter road and other installations
