On 14 October 2008, the European Commission (Commission) cleared the proposed acquisition of the Dutch IT service provider, Getronics PinkRoccade Business Application Services B.V. (BAS) by French-based company Capgemini S.A. BAS’s focus is in the provision of software support and professional services in the Netherlands, whereas, Capgemini is a global company active in four main areas: consulting, technology, outsourcing and local professional services. The principal overlap between the two companies is the area of professional IT services. The Commission’s investigation however identified a number of competitors in the market and it concluded that it was unlikely that competition would be significantly impeded as a result of the deal.
