Yesterday the Department of Conservation released three draft conservation management strategies for the Northland, Auckland and Waikato conservancies.

Conservation management strategies are statutory documents prepared under the Conservation Act 1987 for the purpose of implementing general policies (under conservation legislation) and establishing objectives for the integrated management of natural and historic resources. This includes the management of species and resources for recreation, tourism and other conservation purposes.

These strategies are key conservation planning tools and have statutory effect under conservation legislation. They are particularly relevant to those persons interested in the protection and use of conservation land and resources.

Submissions on the draft strategies close on 15 March 2013.
