• Final draft regulations implementing the new right to additional paternity leave have been published. These rights apply to parents of babies due on or after 3 April 2011.   • The European Council of Ministers has approvedEU proposals to increase parental leave from three to four months, allow employees returning from parental leave to request temporary changes to their working hours, and to give parental leave rights to workers. A revised directive is likely to be formally adopted this year and Member States will then have two years to implement it.
  • The government has published a green paper including proposals to reduce the notice required to take paternity leave and the possible extension of parental leave to parents of children over five.
