Out with the old and in with the new! The passing of the new Patents Bill will change the scope of the New Zealand patents system.

James & Wells are celebrating Parliament’s successful bid to change the patents system here in New Zealand.

Yesterday’s passing of the bill is designed to further encourage New Zealand innovation, whilst ensuring that the interests of the wider public are accounted for.

Although the bill will take a while to come into practice, it will change how we all do things in the office and the firm as a whole moving into the future. The bill replaces the existing 1953 Act; an act that was passed in an era were there were estimated to be only 100 computers in existence.
