2014-15 WA State budget papers

On 8 May 2014, the Western Australia State budget papers were tabled for 2014-15.

While the WA Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) had earlier announced that the State Government was likely to introduce two mirror WHS Bills by the end of 2014, the budget makes no mention of the WHS laws and does not allocate additional funds to DMP or WorkSafe WA for the implementation of new safety laws, making harmonisation in the next financial year unlikely.

Further, the Commerce Department's funding for the provision of advice and regulatory services in the areas of OSH, energy safety, labour relations and construction standards will be reduced from $87 million in 2013-14 to less than $81 million in 2014-15.

The Western Australian Attorney-General and Commerce Minister, has reported that the State Government is "still considering the implications of the national model legislation and its impact on workplaces in Western Australia".
