The Nonadmitted and Reinsurance Reform Act (NRRA) (S. 1363, H.R. 2571) may soon be law according to Senate Banking Committee staff. Senate passage would be welcome for NRRA stakeholders who have thrice been enlivened by House passage only to see progress stall in the Senate. Encouraged by favorable comments from Chairman Chris Dodd (D-CT) and the work of NRRA supporters Senators Evan Bayh (D-IN), Mel Martinez (ret. R-FL), Bill Nelson (D-FL) and Mike Crapo (R-ID), stakeholders are optimistic that the NRRA will be included in the regulatory reform proposal now being developed in the Senate Banking Committee. This good news comes on the heels of a September 9, 2009, unanimous passage in the House.
