ACMA has been reviewing the licensing arrangements in the 27 GHz band, as spectrum licences are due to expire on 17 January 2016. Initial analysis suggests that the band is underutilised but that demand for access to the band is increasing, putting pressure on current arrangements. ACMA has released a consultation paper aimed at identifying licensing arrangements which will maximise the overall public benefit and derive highest value use from the spectrum. The consultation paper discusses two broad options for future arrangements in the band. Option one involves retaining spectrum licensing and option two involves reverting to apparatus licensing. ACMA's preliminary preference is option 2.
Interested stakeholders are invited to comment on the issues raised in the consultation paper by 25 September 2014.
