Charges of corruption against the former President of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, have been dropped following a review by The Office of the Ombudsman. The decision overturns the finding of the Department of Justice that there was probable cause to prosecute the former President in relation to the alleged misuse of state lottery funds amongst other corruption charges. This is not the first time that the former President has faced corruption charges; in July of this year she was released on bail after a judge ruled that vote-rigging charges brought against her were weak.
