The Department of Labor (DOL) announced recently that DOL has entered into a contract to provide additional contractor support to both the Chicago and Atlanta National Processing Centers that handle all labor certification applications. DOL hopes that the additional support will significantly increase DOL's capacity to decide permanent labor certification application that employers file to sponsor foreign nationals to become U.S. permanent residents (green card holders). As of October 27, 2008, DOL is deciding "clean" PERM labor certification applications with no audit issues with initial filing dates in March 2008. DOL is reviewing cases that have been audited and that have initial filing dates of July 2007. DOL is reviewing standard appeals on cases that were initially filed in December 2006. Finally, case re-submitted to DOL as motions to reconsider due to DOL are current.
