Ryanair and its subsidiary Airport Marketing Services Limited, are being investigated by the European Commission (Commission) for two contracts concluded with the Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie de Pau-Béarn (CCIPB). The contracts set out the conditions for Ryanair’s use of the infrastructure at Pau’s airport and the manner in which Airport Marketing Services Limited is to provide its marketing services to CCIPB. The Commission has raised concerns that the financial provisions under the contracts may amount to start-up aid to Ryanair. During its investigation, the Commission will gather evidence to evaluate whether such financing does constitute start-up aid and if so, whether it breaches State aid rules.
