The deadline is fast approaching for advanced practice registered nurse Certificate to Prescribe (CTP) holders to amend their Standard Care Arrangements (SCA) for compliance with important changes to the CTP formulary.
As previously communicated by the Ohio Board of Nursing (Board) in January, all CTP holders are required to amend their written SCAs to comply with recent changes made to the formulary by the Board’s Committee on Prescriptive Governance (CPG). All drugs and drug categories listed in the formulary under the prescribing designation column labeled, “In Accordance with the Standard Care Arrangement,” must be reviewed by the CTP holder with his/her collaborating physician or podiatrist and, based on that review, given one of the following designations: May Not Prescribe; May Prescribe; Physician Initiated; or Physician Consult. Documentation of the prescribing designations is required in the written SCA, which must be amended by April 1, 2014. In addition, the prescribing designation must be consistent with the CTP holder’s practice specialty and cannot exceed the prescriptive authority of the collaborating physician or podiatrist.
